Philip Nelson is a Systems Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) in Pittsfield, MA, USA. Originally from Dumont, NJ, USA, he obtained his B.A. in Mathematics from William Paterson University of Wayne, NJ in 2005 and later his M.S. in Systems Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) of Worcester, MA in 2016. Over his ten-year tenure with GDMS he has worked on guidance, command, and control systems of Strategic Deterrent Weapon Systems such as the US Navy’s TRIDENT II D5 and US Air Force’s MINUTEMAN III. Mid-way into his career while working on his Master’s he took a course online at WPI in Systems Modeling taught by Sanford Friedenthal where he was introduced to SysML and Magicdraw. Since taking this course Philip has been a pioneer in transforming the culture at GDMS to adopt Model Based Systems Engineering in providing training and guidance across numerous programs. Philip Nelson is an Advanced OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional.
